Here at MAREI we have been tracking legislation in Jefferson City since December. There are several bills proposed that would “Prohibits local governments from requiring private property owners to accept Section 8 vouchers“. And since Kansas City Missouri passed Ordinance #231019 last Thursday that would require all housing providers to accept Section 8 Vochers, our next option to fight this ordinance would be this legislation.
Missouri House Bill on Section 8
Missouri House Bill 2385 reads as follows
HB 2385 — LOCAL GOVERNMENT ORDINANCES FOR RENTAL PROPERTY

Currently, no county or city can regulate the amount of rent for certain residential or commercial rental property.
This bill adds the provision that no county or city can prohibit landlords from refusing to lease or rent certain residential or commercial rental property to a person because the person’s source of income to pay rent includes funding from a Federal housing assistance program.
Currently on the Docket for a House Hearing January 30th, 2024 at 2:30 PM in House Hearing Room 4.
If you can attend on January 30th, in Jefferson City Great. If not could you take 5 minutes and submit testimony in support of this house bill?
