MAREI PartnerCast Episode 018: Community Involvement

Community involvement in advocacy is critical to protecting your real estate investment. When policy changes impact your ability to operate your business, your asset will lose value. Stacey Johnson-Cosby has been looking out for property owners and the rights of landlords locally and nationally. In this MAREI Virtual Live podcast, Stacey speaks about housing issues. The necessity to be vocal about fair housing and policy changes are rapidly impacting business owners who provide housing across the metro area.

Laws and regulations have been a hot button issue since Healthy Homes Act, the Tenants Bill of Rights and now the Source of Income City Ordinance. Stacey Johnson Cosby has been on the front lines. She shares knowledge with housing providers and speaks directly to city council members about the real-world consequences of policy changes. We owe a debt of gratitude for a leader like Ms. Johnson-Cosby. She cannot fight for all real estate investors in the city on her own.

Those who have the ability to take action, have the responsibility to take action.

It is critical to have involvement from more landlords to show the city the volume of owners who disagree with the policies they try to push. To show your support for the rights of all housing providers, we urge you to follow the Kansas City Regional Housing Alliance and participate in the requests to use your own voice in polls, emails and calls when needed. Your community involvement is crucial in protecting your own investments.

In this MAREI PartnerCast, recorded in August 2020, you will hear how your involvement will protect property owners. Since that date, you will recognize how her predictions have come true. KC Tenants have continued to push policies and punish good landlords.
