Haves and Wants / Buy-Sell-Trade – MAREI real estate investor networking session.

What Is “Haves and Wants” (a.k.a. Buy-Sell-Trade)?

One of the most popular and powerful parts of a real estate investor meeting is the Haves and Wants Session—sometimes also called Buy-Sell-Trade. This is where deals, opportunities, and connections come to life in real time.

Think of it as an open marketplace where members share what they’re working on, what they’re looking for, and how others can plug in.

How It Works

Haves – You share what you already have to offer.
Examples:

  • A property you need to sell

  • Cash or financing available to invest

  • Contractor services or vendor solutions

  • Knowledge, expertise, or partnerships

Wants – You share what you need right now.
Examples:

  • Looking for a rehab partner or private lender

  • Need a property in a specific zip code

  • Searching for property management help

  • Want to connect with wholesalers or agents

Why It Matters

✔️ Live Deal Flow – Instead of waiting for leads, you hear about opportunities directly from the people in the room.
✔️ Build Relationships – When you share openly, people remember you—and deals often come through follow-up.
✔️ Solve Problems Fast – Whether you’re stuck on funding, contractors, or strategy, someone usually has the answer.
✔️ Everyone Wins – You might help someone else today, and they may help you tomorrow.

Tips for Making the Most of Haves & Wants

  • Be Clear & Specific
Instead of saying “I’m looking for deals,” say “I need a 3-bedroom rental in Johnson County under $200k.”

  • Keep It Short
You’ll usually have 30–60 seconds. Get straight to the point.

  • Follow Up After the Meeting
Bring business cards, flyers, or your QR code so people can reach you later.

  • Be a Giver First
The fastest way to become memorable is to connect others, share resources, and help solve problems.

Why Investors Love It

  • Over and over, we hear stories of people who found their very first deal—or their next partner—during Haves & Wants. It’s networking with purpose, designed for action.

If you’re serious about real estate investing, showing up and participating in Buy-Sell-Trade is one of the easiest (and fastest) ways to plug into your local investor community.
